Tanium is seeking an AI Research Scientist Intern for Summer 2026, reporting to the Staff Data Scientist. The intern will work on real-world problems and contribute to building intelligent systems for autonomous IT across various domains.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to design and implement AI and machine learning (ML) algorithms that improve Tanium’s autonomous IT capabilities
  • Develop and evaluate ML models across a wide variety of use cases, including anomaly detection, threat identification, and performance optimization
  • Analyze large-scale endpoint data to extract meaningful insights and develop predictive models
  • Assist in building data pipelines to efficiently process and analyze endpoint data at scale
  • Conduct exploratory data analyses and visualizations to communicate findings and inform product development decisions
  • Document research, methodologies, and results to contribute to Tanium’s knowledge base
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI, ML, and endpoint management technologies

Skills

  • Strong foundation in machine learning, data analysis, and statistics
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., PyTorch, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, numpy, scipy, pandas)
  • Experience working with large datasets
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Statistics, Anomaly detection, Machine learning (classification/regression), Internals of large language models (LLMs), Agentic AI
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex ideas clearly
  • Passion for technology, cybersecurity, and autonomous systems
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. now and in the future
  • Available to work full-time from June 8, 2024 to August 14, 2025
  • A currently enrolled Master's/ PhD degree candidate ideally studying Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related field with a 3.5+ GPA
  • Graduating Spring 2027 or Fall 2026
