About Mux

Mux is video for developers. Our mission is to democratize video by solving the hard problems developers face when building video: video encoding and streaming (Mux Video), video monitoring (Mux Data), and more. Video is a huge part of people’s lives, and we want to help make it better.

We’re committed to building a healthy team that welcomes diverse backgrounds and experiences. We want people who care about our mission, are ready to grow, believe in our values (from Be Human to Turn Customers Into Fans), and want to improve the people around them.

You’ll join a tight-knit team with experience at places like Google, YouTube, Twitch, Reddit, Zencoder, Fastly, and more. Our founders previously started (and sold) Zencoder, an early leader in cloud video technology, and authored Video.js, the biggest HTML5 video player on the web. We organize Demuxed, the premier conference for video engineers in the world.

We’re backed by top investors like Coatue, Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, and Y Combinator. You’ll get to work with amazing companies: hundreds of startups, plus Strava, Patreon, Vimeo, Robinhood, PBS, and Equinox. Customers, large and small, love working with us and love our team.

We are building something big together. We’d love to hear from you!

About the Role

We're seeking an exceptional Analytics Lead to shape how Mux leverages data to drive product innovation and business growth. This role is perfect for someone who excels as both a strategic thought partner and a hands-on practitioner, comfortable diving deep into analyses while also setting the vision for our data capabilities. You'll work closely with Product, Engineering, and Go-to-Market teams to translate complex data into actionable insights that shape our product roadmap and go-to-market strategy.

This is specifically for someone who thrives in a hands-on capacity, whether you prefer to work as a senior individual contributor or manage a small team of 1-2 analysts, we'll structure the role to match your preferences. This is not a role for someone looking to build and manage a large organization; it's for someone who loves being close to the data and the insights.

What You'll Do

Strategic Product Analytics:

Partner with leadership to define metrics that matter and shape product strategy through data-driven insights

Lead pricing and packaging analyses to optimize revenue growth and market positioning

Conduct deep-dive analyses on user behavior, feature adoption, and customer journey to inform product roadmap

Design and analyze A/B tests and experiments to validate product hypotheses

Present findings and recommendations directly to executive leadership

Business Strategy & Growth:

Identify growth opportunities through analysis of market trends, competitive landscape, and customer data

Develop frameworks for measuring product-market fit and customer success

Partner with Sales and Customer Success to create data products that enhance customer value

Build predictive models for churn, expansion, and customer lifetime value

Lead strategic initiatives that span multiple teams and drive measurable business impact

Technical Leadership & Analytics Infrastructure:

Define and implement analytics best practices and data governance standards

Oversee the design of data models and metrics that scale with business growth

Ensure data quality and establish source-of-truth metrics across the organization

Evaluate and implement modern analytics tools and platforms

Balance technical excellence with pragmatic solutions that deliver value quickly

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Drive cross-functional collaboration and influence without direct authority

Act as a thought partner to Product, Engineering, and GTM leaders to embed data into decision-making

Foster a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and continuous learning

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of experience in product analytics, data science, or quantitative analysis roles

2+ years leading strategic data initiatives or working in a senior IC capacity

Proven track record of influencing product strategy through data-driven insights

Deep expertise in product analytics, including user behavior analysis, cohort analysis, and experimentation

Strong experience with pricing strategy, market analysis, or growth analytics

Experience at B2B SaaS or technology companies

Exceptional ability to translate complex analyses into clear recommendations for non-technical stakeholders

Advanced SQL skills and proficiency in Python or R for statistical analysis

Experience working directly with Product and Engineering teams in a fast-paced environment

Strong presentation skills with experience presenting to senior leadership

Bonus:

Experience in developer tools, API-first companies, or infrastructure businesses

Background in video streaming, media, or content delivery networks

Knowledge of video quality metrics (QoE, QoS) and streaming analytics

Experience building data products or customer-facing analytics features

Track record of successful pricing and packaging initiatives

Experience with UX research and qualitative analysis methods

Experience with modern data stack (dbt, Looker/Tableau, Snowflake)

What Makes You Successful:

You're equally comfortable presenting to the C-suite and writing complex SQL queries

You thrive in ambiguity and can define structure where none exists

You're passionate about using data to solve customer problems and drive business outcomes

You prefer being hands-on and close to the work rather than purely managing from above

You build strong relationships across functions and communicate with empathy

You balance perfectionism with pragmatism to deliver insights that drive action

If you don't have all of these requirements but think your experience could be a great fit, that's okay! Please apply and we can talk about what's most needed in the role.
