Application Architect
Overview
Adastra is seeking a Solution / Application Architect to support a strategic assessment and modernization initiative for a complex, enterprise‑grade platform operating across cloud and edge environments. This role focuses on evaluating current‑state application architecture, identifying improvement opportunities, and helping define a future‑ready, unified architecture. You will play a key role in shaping modernization recommendations, enabling scalability, reusability, and long‑term sustainability across distributed systems.
Primary Location: Across Canada or USA
Work Model: Fully Remote

RESPONSIBILITIES
Assess current application architecture across multiple functional components
Evaluate modularity, scalability, and configurability of existing solutions
Identify technical debt and opportunities for refactoring or component reuse
Analyze application integration patterns and data flows
Map current capabilities to a defined target‑state architecture
Contribute to architecture recommendations and modernization strategies
Support development of a roadmap and MVP plan for future enhancements
Produce clear, structured architecture deliverables and assessments
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
8–12+ years of experience in application or solution architecture roles
Strong background in distributed application design
Experience with microservices and modular architecture patterns
Knowledge of cloud‑native application design principles
Proven experience assessing existing codebases and application landscapes
Ability to develop practical modernization and refactoring strategies
Strong analytical and documentation skills
Ability to communicate architectural concepts clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders
NICE TO HAVE
Experience working with IoT or edge‑based application architectures
Exposure to disconnected or intermittently connected environments
Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns
Experience contributing to architecture roadmaps or MVP definitions
Background in platform or product modernization initiatives
