Applications Scientist
Onto Innovation is a leader in process control, offering advanced technologies for the semiconductor industry. The Applications Scientist will develop metrology solutions for complex measurements and provide technical training and support to customers, particularly focusing on the Micron Account in Boise, ID.
Responsibilities
- The new hire will have the opportunity to work closely with process engineers in semiconductor fabs to develop metrology solutions for complex multi-layer, optical critical dimension (scatterometry), and overlay measurements for state-of-the-art memories devices
- Duties will include applications development and characterization of cutting-edge measurement technologies, creating technology/product presentations, and providing technical training for customers
- Support the Micron Account activity in Boise, ID
- Work with Application Manager to provide comprehensive application support to our current installed base and future installations
- Interface with customers to highlight application opportunities and possibilities to strengthen ONTO position in the market
- Perform on-site tool qualification to achieve customers specifications
- Build and optimize scatterometry and ellipsometry models for both Thin Film and OCD applications to support Micron TD and HVM metrology team
- Travel to HQ for training, summit, and workshops, and travel to other customer sites to assist share experience to local team and customers, and support tool and layer adoptions
- Collect future development feedback from the field and dispense it to our engineering & marketing group for future development to improve ONTO position within the market
Skills
- Ph.D. in Applied Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related science and engineering field
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
- Experience in design of experiments
- Ability to deliver effective technical presentations to internal and external audiences
- Strong understanding of optical properties of materials and other forms of elastic/inelastic light-matter interaction
- Ability to travel internationally up to 20%
- Ability to work in the fab up to 40%
- 0-3 years of experience
- Experience with scientific programming is a plus
- Experience with data science and statistical analysis is a plus
- Proficiency in scripting languages used for data analytics (e.g., Matlab/Python) is a plus
- Knowledge of numerical techniques, Fourier and wavelet analysis, complex analysis, differential equations, and similar applied mathematical techniques is a plus
