Assistant Retail Buyer
About the Role
Our client, a well-established national retailer known for its curated selection of products, is seeking an analytical and trend-aware Assistant Retail Buyer to support their buying team in Des Moines, Iowa . This role is instrumental in assisting with the sourcing, selection, and purchasing of merchandise that aligns with customer demand and company financial objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of market trends, a keen eye for product details, and excellent negotiation skills.
You will work closely with the Senior Buyer, analyzing sales data, managing vendor relationships, and contributing to the strategic direction of product assortments for the Des Moines market and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Assist Senior Buyers in the selection and procurement of merchandise within designated categories. Analyze sales reports, market trends, and competitor activity to identify purchasing opportunities. Manage vendor communications, including order placement, tracking, and issue resolution.
Maintain accurate product information, pricing, and assortment details in the system. Support negotiations with vendors regarding pricing, terms, and delivery schedules. Collaborate with marketing and visual merchandising teams on product launches and promotions.
Monitor inventory levels and recommend adjustments to purchasing plans to optimize stock. Attend trade shows and industry events to identify new products and suppliers. Assist in the development of seasonal buying plans and financial forecasts.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Merchandising, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. 1-3 years of experience in retail buying, merchandising, or a related analytical role. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting. Understanding of retail math principles and financial forecasting.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Keen eye for product trends and customer preferences.
Experience with retail buying software or ERP systems is a plus. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. Benefits
