Job Summary

The AVP Loss Analysis is responsible for leading the analysis, forecasting, and reporting of credit, servicing, and liquidation losses across the mortgage servicing portfolio. This role provides senior level analytical insight into loss drivers, advance exposure, claim recoverability, and investor impact, with a particular focus on FHA, VA, USDA, GNMA, and GSE portfolios. The AVP of Loss Analysis partners closely with Loss Mitigation, Default Servicing, Finance, Investor Reporting, and Risk to ensure losses are accurately quantified, explained, and controlled through data driven decision making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Loss Analytics & Reporting

Lead portfolio level and loan level analysis, including:

Managing pipelines of claim receivables

Reconciliation of expenditures to reimbursement amounts

Identifying reasons for non-collection (i.e. uncontrollable vs. controllable)

Refer certain items for additional recoveries from a variety of counterparties

Recording losses to system with appropriate attribution

Lead projects to improve recovery rates

Develop and maintain recurring executive, investor, and regulatory loss reporting

Analyze historical and forward looking loss trends and identify emerging risk concentrations

Forecasting & Financial Impact

Ensure that systems and transaction protocols are managed to enable precise and efficient information exchange

Own loss forecasting inputs supporting advance liquidity planning and reserve analysis

Partner with Finance to validate loss assumptions reflected in financial statements, reserves, and investor reporting

Government & Investor Programs

Assess loss exposure related to investor and insurer programs

Provide analytical support for investor inquiries, disputes, and audit requests

Operational Partnership

Work closely with Loss Mitigation and Default Servicing leadership to Identify root causes of losses and support remediation and process improvements initiatives

Translate servicing and operational metrics into financial loss implications

Risk Management & Controls

Support internal control design and effectiveness related to loss reporting, data integrity, and claim recoverability

Participate in internal audits, investor reviews, and external examinations by providing clear analytical documentation and explanations

Leadership & Development

Lead and develop Loss Analysis team

Establish consistent analytical standards, documentation practices, and review protocols

Act as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complex loss scenarios

Performs Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field, or combination of education and equivalent work experience required

Experience

Minimum of ten (10) years mortgage servicing experience with a strong focus on loss analysis, default servicing, or credit analytics’ work experience in mortgage loan accounting and/or mortgage servicing operations required.

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a leadership position within a Loss Analysis function preferred.

Experience supporting advance facilities and internal audits or regulatory examinations preferred

Functional/Technical Skills

Deep understanding of FHA, VA, USDA servicing and claims frameworks

Advanced analytical skills with strong proficiency in SQL and Microsoft Excel

Ability to synthesize complex data into clear, executive level insights

Familiarity with servicing systems (e.g., MSP / ICE) and investor/insurer systems

Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail

Executive level communication and presentation skills

Ability to explain loss drivers in both operational and financial terms

Proven ability to partner effectively across servicing, finance, and risk functions

Demonstrated strong leadership skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.  Ability to interact effectively with external and internal clients across departments and locations.

Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Ability to solve problems with a sense of urgency by recognizing opportunities, understanding risk and acting quickly to overcome obstacles and reach a solution.

Ability to organize, prioritize, and distribute workload for optimum efficiency
