About the Role

We are looking for a commercially sharp and proactive Business Development Associate to help generate and qualify sales opportunities for a B2B software business operating in the privacy, compliance, and governance space.

This is not a generic appointment-setting role. The ideal candidate should be able to understand and discuss topics such as GDPR, privacy operations, compliance workflows, documentation, audit readiness, vendor management, and internal governance processes with confidence and credibility.

You do not need to be a lawyer, but you must be able to understand the problem space well enough to identify pain points, hold intelligent conversations with prospects, and position a technical solution clearly.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and build targeted prospect lists using tools such as Apollo

Research ideal customer profiles, buyer personas, and companies with likely privacy and compliance needs
Run outbound email campaigns with relevant and personalized messaging
Conduct cold calls and first-touch outreach to decision-makers
Qualify leads based on business pain, compliance maturity, urgency, buying fit, and technical alignment
Book qualified discovery calls and demos for the founder or sales lead
Maintain accurate pipeline, notes, and follow-up workflows in Pipedrive
Help refine messaging, outreach angles, objections, and target customer profiles based on market feedback
Translate prospect pain points into structured commercial and product insights
Support early-stage sales efforts with discipline, ownership, and good judgment

Core Areas of Work

Outbound Prospecting

Build lead lists for relevant target segments
Identify suitable contacts such as founders, CTOs, operations leads, compliance leads, DPOs, legal operations teams, IT managers, and privacy or security stakeholders
Segment prospects by size, industry, geography, and likely compliance trigger points

Email Outreach

Write and send targeted outbound emails
Create and manage email sequences in Apollo or similar tools
Test different messaging angles and improve response rates over time
Ensure outreach remains relevant, credible, and professional

Cold Calling and Qualification

Call prospects to introduce the offering and uncover pain points
Qualify interest and assess whether the company has a genuine privacy or compliance operations need
Handle first-level objections with confidence and clarity
Book meetings only when there is a genuine fit

Sales Support in a Technical and Compliance Context

Understand and speak about concepts such as GDPR, privacy operations, records of processing, policies and controls, vendor risk, processor management, audit readiness, compliance documentation workflows, and governance processes
Learn the product deeply enough to explain value clearly to both non-technical and semi-technical buyers
Surface patterns in buyer objections, feature gaps, and positioning opportunities

Required Skills and Experience

2+ years of experience in B2B outbound sales, lead generation, business development, or appointment setting
Hands-on experience with Apollo for prospecting and outbound workflows
Experience using Pipedrive or a similar CRM
Strong written English for professional email outreach
Strong spoken English for cold calls and qualification
Ability to research companies and identify relevant buyer pain points
Good commercial instinct and ability to speak confidently with senior stakeholders
Basic understanding of GDPR, privacy, compliance, or governance-related business problems
Basic comfort with SaaS or software products in a B2B setting
Organized, self-managed, persistent, and thoughtful in follow-up

Preferred Experience

Experience selling or supporting sales in privacy tech, regtech, legal tech, compliance software, cybersecurity, governance software, or B2B SaaS for regulated industries
Familiarity with terms such as GDPR, DPA, DPIA, ROPA, data subject rights, vendor due diligence, policy management, and information security questionnaires
Ability to understand a technical product demonstration at a high level

Experience working directly with a founder or in an early-stage startup environment

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is commercially sharp, naturally curious, and confident in outbound communication. They should be comfortable speaking with senior stakeholders, able to understand technical and compliance language, and capable of turning product capabilities into business value. They should also be proactive, organized, and able to operate effectively in an early-stage environment.
