We are presently looking for a dynamic, strategic and hyper-organized candidate to serve as Chief of Staff to the CEO.

Topline:

COURIER is building the largest independent, mission-driven media network in America  — and we are looking for an enthusiastic, high-capacity, detail-oriented individual to serve as a trusted liaison and strategic operator to help implement the CEO’s vision for the company. 

This role is ideal for someone who excels at fostering an environment and coordinating functions dedicated to executive enablement. You’ll ensure the CEO’s vision is translated into action, support organizational alignment, communicate with external stakeholders, and help keep our leadership team focused, informed, and effective. 

This role is designed for someone energized by enabling leadership, managing internal communications, and driving follow-through.

Role and Responsibilities: 

CEO Enablement & Executive Leverage 

Reports to: CEO

Help prioritize initiatives and manage time, focus, and follow-through

Manage the Office of the CEO, including the Executive Assistant to the CEO and the CEO’s schedule, ensuring her time is aligned with strategic priorities

 

Information Flow & Internal Communications 

Manage the flow of information to and from the CEO, ensuring senior leaders are kept up to date on decisions, key data, and priorities on a day-to-day basis 

Maintain a proactive internal communications rhythm that keeps staff aligned with leadership updates, strategy, and operational changes 

Facilitate cross-functional coordination and communication between departments and leadership team members 

Coordinate regular internal reporting, including providing the executive summaries 

Leadership Internal Operations + Relationships 

Track organizational OKRs for the CEO and ensure that there is clear visibility and accountability across departments 

Anticipate roadblocks and identify opportunities for process or systems improvement, working closely with division leaders to ensure execution 

Plan and facilitate executive and senior leadership team meetings and meeting agendas for the CEO 

Step in as a proxy for the CEO in meetings or decisions as needed 

Key External Relationships: Board of Directors, External Partners and Stakeholders

Draft and/or review external-facing materials as well as briefing materials for internal and external presentations and meetings

Staff the CEO at in-person meetings, events, and conferences when appropriate and coordinate follow up 

Step in as a proxy for the CEO in external meetings or decisions as needed 

Lead critical high-level projects as they develop and provide support on CEO priorities. 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have Some or All of the Following:

5+ years working directly with a CEO, founder, or high-level executive in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment 

Experience in an operations role within a strategic communications, journalism, or political campaign environment 

A passion for principal management and supporting a visionary with tactical execution with little oversight 

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to translate complex information into clear and actionable messaging in memos and presentations 

Ability to leverage brand guides to develop decks and leave-behind materials 

Highly organized, resourceful, and adept at managing shifting priorities with discretion and calm under pressure 

An appreciation and adeptness for internal communications,

Keen attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture — tracking leadership-wide to-dos and ability to prioritize which need immediate attention

Thoughtful approach to managing external relationships and maintaining appropriate communications, providing necessary updates, and keeping all parties informed
