Job Purpose:
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on project costs to ensure accurate financial management and support strategic decision-making. The role plays a critical part in helping the company maintain cost control and profitability across construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Allocation Review
- Review and verify the accuracy of cost allocations for each construction project to ensure correct recording and reporting.
2. Direct Cost Monitoring
- Monitor and analyze direct material costs, ensuring correct supplier pricing and tracking cost fluctuations.
3. Supplier Cost Comparisons
- Verifying cost comparisons between suppliers to identify savings opportunities and improve procurement efficiency.
4. Budget Adherence Validation
- Collaborate closely with the procurement and project teams to validate spending against approved budgets.
5. Reporting and Variance Analysis
- Prepare cost reports and perform variance analyses to identify discrepancies between actual and budgeted costs and recommend corrective actions.
6. Budget Setting and Monitoring
- Assist in developing project budgets and continuously monitor actual spending versus budgeted figures.
7. Compliance and Standards
- Ensure all cost accounting activities comply with company policies, financial controls, and relevant accounting standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
- Prior experience in construction cost accounting or a similar role.
- Proficiency in accounting software (such as ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.
