We are seeking a Data Engineering Manager to play a crucial role in leading the strategy and day-to-day execution for our data engineering organization. Your team will "own" our Data Warehouse, collaborating closely with our Data Science and Software Engineering teams to enhance our product, and support the operational data needs of our strategic Insights, Marketing, and Finance teams.

Additionally, you will build and mentor a high-performing team, ensuring that our data systems and solutions align with our mission to improve healthcare outcomes. This is a hands-on role; the ideal candidate will have high overlap with our Data Engineering toolstack (GCP, DBT, Airflow, Python) and be comfortable supporting their team via regular code reviews and contributing to the code base. This role is also highly collaborative and necessitates working closely with other Engineering teams, and fostering close partnerships with the Product, Clinical, Operations and Finance teams.

Responsibilities Include:
Data Engineering Leadership, Strategy & Execution
Help define and execute on a strategic vision for data engineering that aligns with business goals

Collaborate with Product and other stakeholders to define and prioritize the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives

Drive the successful execution of data engineering projects across multiple teams, including planning, resource allocation, and project management

Continue to mature data engineering best practices towards test-based development and automation

Data Infrastructure & Engineering
Oversee the development and maintenance of scalable, reliable data pipelines and infrastructure

Ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage solutions that support analytics and machine learning models

Lead efforts to integrate various data systems and platforms to create a unified patient centered dataset

Data Governance
Establish and enforce best practices for data quality, privacy, security, compliance (e.g., HIPAA) and ethical data usage

Improve operational efficiency by ensuring a 'single source of truth' for all analytics data

Team Building & Mentorship
Build and grow a high-performing team of data engineers

Required Qualifications
Proven experience (5+ years in Data or other Software Engineering with 2+ years in Data Engineering leadership roles), with a track record of successfully delivering complex software projects

Strong, hands-on expertise in modern data engineering tools and frameworks (e.g., DBT, Airflow, Google Cloud Platform), with a focus on scalability and operational excellence

Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor and inspire technical teams

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, business partners, and vendors alike

Experience working in a HIPAA regulated environment (or other regulated industry) and supporting data security and privacy controls

Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

Demonstrated experience building and supporting Data Warehouse solutions

Strong drive for automated testing

Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with healthcare data standards such as FHIR, OHDSI, or similar

Experience in a startup environment

Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field
