Job Summary

Marriott Vacations Worldwide is seeking for a Data Scientist to join our Global Data & Analytics (D&A) team and help develop our advanced analytics capabilities. In this role, you will support the articulation, design, development, and implementation of analytical solutions to solve complex business problems and enable data-driven decision making to optimize our business operations, enhance customer experiences, and contribute to the company’s growth.

The Data Scientist will need to work and collaborate cross-functionally with business partners, other D&A pillars, and IT on the different stages of these analytical solutions. The Data Scientist is expected to support all facets of Data Science initiatives including: business requirements gathering, understanding data architecture landscape, data wrangling & transformation, modeling, testing, deployment, analysis and visualization, and communication to stakeholders and business partners.

Location: Fully remote; occasional business travel to MVW offices (e.g. US, Mexico, Costa Rica, others)

Expected Contributions (including duties and responsibilities)

  • Understand business problems and translate requirements into analytical frameworks. This includes supporting the definition of project objectives, scope, and success criteria in collaboration with business partners

    Explore data sources to help identify and understand key data required for modeling. Develop and maintain scripts to implement data extraction, data wrangling, data cleaning, and feature creation to build robust and automated datasets for modeling and analysis

    Run Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) to identify data trends, relationships, and anomalies

    Help identify the appropriate models that solve specific business problems. Support with the development, testing, and deployment of such models

    Provide business partners with clear and concise recommendations based on findings and insights obtained from model results

    Develop dashboards and reports to communicate effectively results and insights to stakeholders

    Communicate complex technical concepts and findings in a clear and understandable manner to non-technical stakeholders

    Candidate Profile (the education, experience, skills, and attributes that are important for this position)

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, or a related field

      Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to tackle complex challenges

      Minimum 4+ years of experience as a Data Scientist in a data-driven environment. Candidates with less professional experience can be considered based on their level of knowledge of statistical techniques, machine learning algorithms, and predictive modeling methods

      Solid understanding of statistical techniques, machine learning algorithms, and predictive modeling methods

      Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for algorithm development and implementation

      Experience working with large datasets leveraging SQL or other query languages for data wrangling and transformation

      Experience with reporting and data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)

      Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders

      Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and adapt to changing project requirements

      Upper-Intermediate / Advanced level of English (B2/C1). You will be expected to have in-depth verbal and written discussions with English speakers on a daily basis

      Preferred experience working with Agile methodologies
