Job description: VACANCY: Valley View Community Unit School District 365U is seeking an Elementary School Assistant Principal for the 2025-2026 school year.JOB SUMMARY: Under general direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting in the leadership, administration and coordination of an elementary school.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.


  • Understand the underlying philosophy for an elementary school that matches the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of primary and intermediate students.

  • Assist in the planning, development, organization, coordination, and supervision of instructional programs and activities; interpret and implement the District approved curriculum program in the light of individual school needs.

  • Assist school improvement planning and implementation, including the gathering, analysis, and use of student data within building teams.

  • Assist in screening, selecting, assigning, supervising, and evaluation of certified and educational support staff (ie: paraprofessionals, security and maintenance, contracted personnel and substitute teachers.

  • Provide effective leadership for efficient operation of special services in the building in conjunction with the Principal and District leaders.

  • Assist in the planning, scheduling, and supervision of student activities.

  • Supervise and evaluate substitutes assigned to the building and remote locations.

  • Assist in the budget planning process at the building level.

  • Supervise procedures regarding to student and building safety and security, including drills, disturbance investigations, crisis/emergency management.

  • Coordinate transportation needs of the school in cooperation with Principal and District leaders.

  • Coordinate the assignment, orientation, and supervision of student teachers and interns in cooperation with the building Principal.

  • Assist with the organization and management of instructional materials, student records, and financial obligations of the building (ie: budgets, accounts, and fees)

  • Relate to students with mutual respect while carrying out and modeling a developmentally appropriate behavior plan/policy.

  • Supervise and manage building operations to assure safety and efficiency.

  • Monitor teaching and learning as directed by the Principal (including observing classroom instruction and analyzing student learning data).

  • Coordinate, schedule, and supervise building operations as assigned by the Principal (including cleaning, maintenance, lunchroom, playground, co-curricular program, food service, and building usage).

  • Assist with state and federal reporting requirements as directed.

  • Facilitate Special Education meetings and serve as Local Education Agency (LEA) representative.

  • Organize and facilitate kindergarten transition meetings through collaboration with elementary assistant principals.

  • Serve as the Building Principal in the absence of the Principal.

  • Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned.

  • The vision, compassion, and enthusiasm for effective team leadership to motivate high standards and continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction at the elementary level.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions.

  • Experience with integration of instructional technology to enhance delivery and learning.

  • Demonstrated use of strategies for ensuring equitable practices in a diverse learning environment

  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with a record of building relationships that foster collegial trust, promote teacher efficacy, aspire to high expectations and accountability, and maintain a common instructional focus.

  • Demonstrate positive attitude toward job and remain a flexible and innovative team builder.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION

  • Master's Degree, from an accredited college or university, with training in administration, supervision, and curriculum development at the elementary level.

LICENSURE

  • Appropriate Illinois credentials to evaluate certified staff

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate administrative endorsement (ie: Principal, Superintendent, etc.)

EXPERIENCE

  • Five years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level.

  • Three years or more of successful administrative or supervisory experience at the elementary level preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The work year for this position is 210 days. The Salary is based on LUDA market comparisons as determined by the Superintendent.SALARY RANGE: $84,200-$87,609 Based on ExperienceBENEFITS:
