As a part of our commitment to academic success, we are seeking an experienced Academic Tutor to join our Open Doors/Upward Bound program. This program is designed to provide academic assistance to middle and high school-age participants, helping them develop the skills needed to become self-confident and independent learners.
Job Summary
The Academic Year Tutor will work directly with the Upward Bound and Open Doors Academic Advisors to provide academic support to students in a part-time, temporary capacity. As a Tutor, you will play a key role in the success of both programs, requiring competency, reliability, and integrity. Key Responsibilities
- Tutor and assist students in academic subject areas, including Math, Science, English, and other high school core curriculum.
- Establish rapport with students assigned as tutees and provide a supportive learning environment.
- Arrive at all tutoring sessions promptly, prepared, and appropriately dressed, demonstrating a commitment to professionalism.
- Report to, and keep UB and OD supervisors advised of both the perceived and real needs of students, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Identify student's problem areas and confer with program staff to develop strategies for improvement.
- Attend all scheduled meetings, training sessions, and individual meetings with the program staff, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing learning and development.
- Abstain from the use of alcohol/tobacco products while on duty or around students, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and responsibility.
- Leave absences must be approved in advance by program staff, ensuring that students receive consistent support and guidance.
- Prepare time sheets and report any signs or indications of abuse to the program staff, upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and sensitivity.
