Job Overview

We are urgently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Project Manager to lead our high voltage and solar energy services projects. As a key member of our project management team, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of solar special projects, including project planning, budgeting, buyout, project controls/reporting, scheduling, risk management, and more. Your leadership and expertise will be essential in ensuring the successful execution of our projects, and you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieve our goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and take responsibility for significant scopes of self-performed work, including sequencing, crew-sizing, productivity goals, and monthly labor spend.
  • Develop and implement safety plans and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Oversee the preparation of project billings and seek to maximize cash flow and reduce pay cycles through diligent and strategic billing preparation.
  • Present and negotiate change orders with owners for timely resolution and negotiate cost-effective subcontract and material purchases.
  • Set up and implement job procedures and techniques to assure timely buyout, shop drawing approval, and material delivery.
  • Maintain timely and accurate reporting to management, particularly with regard to cost forecasting and estimated cost at completion.
  • Manage, train, and supervise team members according to company policy and act as a mentor to younger employees to encourage professional growth and career development.
  • Review contract conditions and ensure compliance with all contract terms.
  • Supervise the documentation of all significant project events, such as accidents, delays, and change orders.
  • Direct preconstruction services and activities, including negotiating, preparing, and issuing subcontract bid packages.
  • Effectively manage project risk, evaluate probability and severity of risk events, and prepare mitigation plans with the project team and operations management.
  • Maintain quality control, including the development and implementation of a Site-Specific Quality Management Plan (SSQMP).
  • Avoid or mitigate claims and conflict, and complete all job close-out procedures.
  • Conduct warranty follow-up and complete projects with full or enhanced fees.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with owners, engineers, and subcontractors, and develop strategies and skills to build strong partnerships.
  • Coordinate with material suppliers to ensure timely deliveries and develop solutions to logistical and supply-chain challenges.
  • Negotiate and coordinate with local contract labor providers to ensure sufficient manpower resources at competitive commercial terms.
  • Organize and lead regular meetings with owners and key project partners.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, or a related field.
  • At least 5-8 years of field construction management experience, including supervisory skills.
  • Leadership ability, with the capacity to pull together team members from diverse backgrounds in a remote environment and organize them into a cohesive, high-performing project team.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office suite and other industry-standard tools, such as Bluebeam Revu and construction ERP's.
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract law and project accounting.
  • A thorough understanding of all project management control systems, including scheduling, cost control, procurement, and estimating.
  • A general understanding of utility-scale PV plant construction means, methods, sequencing, and techniques.
  • Ability to travel (minimum 30%) and build trust and rapport with all SOLV Energy departments for the benefit of projects.
  • Organizational and communication skills, with strong people skills and attention to detail.
  • A motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience in high voltage substation construction and energy storage projects.
  • Knowledge of substation components and general electrical construction, components, and labor metrics.
  • Certifications in project management, such as PMP or Agile.
  • Experience with construction management software and technology.
  • A strong network of contacts in the renewable energy sector.
