Geologist
AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting firm committed to delivering a better world. They are seeking an entry level Geologist to join their Remediation team in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where the role will support site investigation and remediation projects.
Responsibilities
- Field activities consisting of air, soil vapor, soil, groundwater, and sediment sample collection and geological logging and interpretation
- Task or project management and lead teams for field activities consisting of air, soil vapor, soil, groundwater, and sediment sample collection and geological logging and interpretation
- Working with subcontractors to deliver services according to contract requirements while adhering to company and client safety standards
- Assisting with gathering and analyzing geological and hydrogeological data in both the field and office settings
- Assisting in preparation of written reports, work plans, remedial action plans, site investigation reports, site closures, site management plans, and technical memorandums; analysis of data; and development of supported conclusions
- Assisting in preparation and implementation of work plans, cost estimates, data compilation/analysis, and report preparation (text, tables, figures, and calculations)
- Performing independent hands-on fieldwork, oversee contractors (laboratory personnel, drillers, and surveyors), and other field personnel, and interacting with clients/client representatives
- Utilizing basic scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope
- Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, and comparing findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance
- Assisting with landfill compliance monitoring, including reporting of groundwater and landfill gas remedial systems performance and monitoring data
- Assisting in the preparation of Health and Safety Plans and identifying hazard recognition during field assignments
- Working under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member
Skills
- Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree in Geological, Hydrogeological, Environmental Sciences or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Valid U.S. Driver's License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices
- As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
- Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required
- Experience in the environmental remediation industry (private or public)
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable meeting with clients, colleagues, and sub-contractors alike
- Flexible with working hours and locations; frequent travel within 1-2-hour drive of home office and occasionally further
- Willingness and ability to learn and rapidly master new tasks
- Strong research and report writing (including web-based research)
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Strong quality and time management
- Self-starter, develops and delivers work under own initiative
- Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work
- Proficient with basic computer programs; Microsoft Suite Programs
