Health/Sleep Book Editor Needed — Final Polish, Science Accuracy Pass & KDP Formatting in 7 Days

Full-time

I am looking for an experienced nonfiction book editor to help take my completed health/sleep manuscript from “strong draft” to final KDP-ready publication files within one week.

The manuscript is approximately 49,000 words and is a consumer health book about the connection between sleep posture, spinal alignment, deep sleep, pain, and recovery. The book is written for everyday readers who wake up with neck pain, back pain, stiffness, poor sleep, or low energy and want a practical, science-informed way to improve their sleep and mornings.

This is not a heavy ghostwriting project. The manuscript is already complete. I need a sharp final editor who can help with:

Final developmental tightening

Improve flow, remove repetition, sharpen chapter transitions, and make sure the book keeps its promise to the reader.

Science/medical defensibility pass

Flag claims that are too strong, unsupported, overly broad, or need softer wording. The tone should remain engaging and persuasive, but it must pass a reasonable medical/health credibility test.

Line editing and copyediting

Improve clarity, rhythm, readability, grammar, typos, consistency, and overall polish while preserving the author’s voice.

Message-to-market alignment

Make sure the book stays focused on the core reader promise: helping people understand how sleep posture, alignment, and sleep quality may contribute to waking pain-free and feeling more restored.

KDP-ready formatting

Format the final manuscript for Amazon KDP, including ebook and paperback interior files. I would like clean chapter headings, front matter, back matter, table of contents, and professional interior formatting.

There is also a minor rewrite that incorporates a couple of stories from the book. I do expect we can cut 10–15% without losing substance. At 49,000 words, we could probably get this to 42,000–45,000 sharper words and make it feel more premium. But this is only a suggestion.

Paid Sample Requirement

Before awarding the full project, I would like to start with a paid 1,000-word sample edit.

For the sample, I will provide a section of the manuscript that includes a mix of science, storytelling, and consumer-facing explanation. This sample should show how you would:

preserve the author’s voice

improve clarity and flow

tighten repetition

soften or flag overclaims

improve readability

maintain a compelling but credible tone

Please include your price for the 1,000-word paid sample edit in your proposal.

Suggested sample edit budget: $50–$100, depending on your experience.

If the sample is strong, I will move forward quickly with the full manuscript. Priority will be given to those who are available to do this project this week.

Milestone Structure

I would like to work in clear milestones based on the five major sections of the project. Please confirm that you are comfortable working with milestone payments.

Preferred milestones:

Milestone 1 — Paid Sample Edit

1,000-word sample edit with tracked changes and brief notes.

Suggested budget: $50–$100

Milestone 2 — Developmental Tightening + Message-to-Market Review

Review the full manuscript for structure, repetition, chapter flow, promise clarity, and reader experience. Provide edits/comments directly in the manuscript.

Suggested budget: 20–25% of the project

Milestone 3 — Science/Medical Defensibility Pass

Flag claims that are too strong, unsupported, overly broad, or need citations/softening. Suggest safer language while keeping the book compelling.

Suggested budget: 20–25% of the project

Milestone 4 — Line Edit + Copyedit

Polish the full manuscript for readability, rhythm, grammar, consistency, typos, and clarity while preserving the author’s voice.

Suggested budget: 30–35% of the project

Milestone 5 — KDP Formatting + Final Proof Pass

Prepare final KDP-ready files for ebook and paperback, including table of contents, front matter, back matter, clean chapter formatting, and final proofing after layout.

Suggested budget: 20–25% of the project

Ideal Candidate

You have experience editing nonfiction health, wellness, sleep, pain, chiropractic, physical therapy, medical, or science-based consumer books.

You understand the difference between making a book compelling and making claims that sound too absolute. You are comfortable softening medical/scientific claims without stripping the book of personality.

You should be able to work quickly, communicate clearly, and keep the project moving.

Important Tone/Style Notes

The book should feel reader-friendly, practical, and engaging — not academic, dry, or overly clinical or AI-written (AI checker will be used)

The voice should remain warm, credible, and slightly story-driven. I want it to feel like a smart clinician explaining complicated ideas in a way normal people can understand.

The book should not become generic sleep hygiene content. The core promise is about helping readers understand how sleep posture, alignment, pain, and deep sleep connect.
