The Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting a Human Resource Generalist in Helena. The HR Generalist will partner with leadership to manage human resources operations, ensuring compliance with policies and providing support on various personnel issues.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of human resources for an assigned program area
  • Manage the application of the human resources policies, procedures, and programs to ensure consistency and compliance with federal, state, and collective bargaining contracts
  • Consult, advise, and partner with management on personnel issues, contract interpretation, performance management, recruitment and selection, discipline, drug testing, workforce development, employee relations, training, worker’s compensation and safety
  • Serve as the human resources subject matter expert and primary resource for the Division(s) or District

Skills

  • Associate's Degree in human resources, business, or public administration or a closely related field
  • One (1) year of human resources related experience
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of Human Resource Management and Public Administration
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment laws
  • Knowledge of labor relations
  • Knowledge of drug testing laws and rules governing labor-management relations
  • Knowledge of contract negotiation techniques
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning
  • Knowledge of leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources
  • Knowledge of behaviors and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests
  • Knowledge of learning and motivation, and assessment
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Knowledge of customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations and business communications
  • Knowledge of presentation and technical writing methods and techniques
