The Intelligent Automation Developer builds and supports technical solutions to automate high-value manual workflows across clinical, research, and business functions at City of Hope. The developer will have an agile, problem-solving mentality and will use automation and AI platforms to deliver secure, compliant, and reliable solutions.

The developer will partner with ETG product, engineering, and data science teams (as needed) to implement complete, secure solutions. This role is at the forefront of new workflow transformation initiatives at City of Hope. Position will implement efficient solutions by leveraging enterprise automation and AI platforms, including configurable out of the box agents and broader agentic ecosystems, along with strong technical skills to address system and data integration challenges (e.g., Python scripting, APIs, SQL).

Experience with LLM frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, etc.), Azure, EHR systems, and Snowflake are valued, and the ideal candidate will be ready to learn and enhance their skills across these platforms. Overall, this role is expected to participate in and learn new technologies as they emerge in this ever-changing environment. As a successful candidate, you will:
Design, develop, test, and deploy intelligent automation solutions using automation, workflow orchestration, and AI frameworks, to streamline healthcare operations (e.g., revenue cycle, supply chain, patient access, clinical administration).

Integrate automation solutions with EHRs, clinical systems, data platforms, and enterprise applications while ensuring secure handling of PHI/PII in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.

Contribute technical expertise to requirements sessions; clarify requirements; implement changes and ensure alignment with internal policies

Monitor, support, and optimize production automations; troubleshoot issues, implement enhancements, and ensure high availability and performance.

Collaborate with Data Scientists and ML Engineers to integrate machine learning, advanced analytics, or custom AI agents into workflows as required by the business case. Proactively identify opportunities for integrating existing COH AI platforms (e.g., HopeLLM)

Contribute to automation standards, best practices, documentation, reusable components, and knowledge sharing across the automation and healthcare technology community.

Your qualifications should include:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field; Experience may substitute in lieu of educational requirement.

3+ years of experience in process automation, software engineering or related roles.

Hands on experience designing and supporting production automation, software, and/or AI solutions in regulated environments

Knowledge of Microsoft AI and Automation Platforms (Power Automate, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry)

Programming experience with scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell, C++, or similar languages)

API development/consumption (REST, authentication, secret/key vault management, etc.)

Experience with RPA and automation platforms (e.g., UiPath, Power Automate, Blue Prism, or equivalent)

Familiarity with Generative AI capabilities and foundation models; experience with prompt engineering and basic LLM workflows

Cloud experience (Azure preferred) and familiarity with DevOps practices

Experience working within enterprise governance processes (change management, security reviews, access controls)

 Preferred:
Master’s degree preferred.

Healthcare, life sciences, or other highly regulated industry experience

Experience working with EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) or healthcare data platforms

Knowledge of healthcare workflows such as revenue cycle, patient access, claims, prior authorization, scheduling, or clinical operations

Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR)

Experience applying LLM frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph), RAG systems, etc., with an emphasis on applied knowledge and rapid prototyping.

Experience with AI governance, model validation, and responsible AI practices

Ability to creatively apply a variety of tools to develop workflow automation solutions

Ability to translate business/functional requirements into technical solutions

Self directed with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously

Strong documentation and technical writing skills
