Intern, R&D Undergraduate Year-Round - AI For Autonomy, Hybrid
Sandia National Laboratories is the nation’s premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation, with teams of specialists focused on cutting-edge work in a broad array of areas. They are currently hiring undergraduate interns to join their AutonomyNM Institute, where interns will work on research and development of autonomous systems, including tasks such as developing algorithms and programming robots.
Responsibilities
- Developing algorithms
- Developing software
- Coding at various levels from high level to assembly
- Integrating processors (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, GPU) into flight hardware
- Programming robots
- Performing system ID of drones
- Generating trajectories
- Flying drones
- Analyzing test data
- Modeling/simulating dynamic systems
Skills
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
- Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
- Our program is interdisciplinary and welcomes students currently pursuing a degree in Robotics or Artificial Intelligence, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, and other SEM related majors
- Proficiency in a computer language such as C++/C/C#, Python, CUDA, Julia, Matlab, or the like; and at least one or more of the following
- Classes in machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, computer vision, etc
- Familiarity with sensor phenomenology such as optical, multispectral, or radar
- Competency in Linux, ROS, an RTOS, or some engineering software like Simulink, GNSS-SDR, Verilog/VHDL, Mathematica, SPSS, etc
- A GPA of 4.0/4.0 (If your college gives a 4.3, 5.0 or another number as the highest grade, please put that denominator on your resume.)
- Previous internship experience in STEM
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy secret clearance
