Job Summary
The Activity Instructor (Dance/Step) will be responsible for teaching dance classes to participants, developing and implementing lesson plans, and creating a fun and engaging learning environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching dance, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with young people from diverse backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach dance classes to participants, following a prescribed curriculum
- Develop and implement lesson plans that incorporate literacy, history, and other academic subjects
- Plan and implement culminating events or projects at the end of each cycle
- Delegate roles and expectations to group leaders and program aides during class time
- Attend staff meetings and staff development training sessions
- Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions, and becoming involved in program activities
Requirements
- High School Diploma required; BA preferred
- Professional experience in teaching dance required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting
- Commitment to working from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective
