Job Summary

The Activity Instructor (Dance/Step) will be responsible for teaching dance classes to participants, developing and implementing lesson plans, and creating a fun and engaging learning environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching dance, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with young people from diverse backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach dance classes to participants, following a prescribed curriculum
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that incorporate literacy, history, and other academic subjects
  • Plan and implement culminating events or projects at the end of each cycle
  • Delegate roles and expectations to group leaders and program aides during class time
  • Attend staff meetings and staff development training sessions
  • Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions, and becoming involved in program activities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; BA preferred
  • Professional experience in teaching dance required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting
  • Commitment to working from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective
