About SafelyYou
SafelyYou’s passionate mission is to empower safer, more person-centered care across senior living through world-leading AI, industry-changing hardware, and remote expert clinicians, significantly improving outcomes for residents while increasing peace of mind for families and reducing costs for communities.

Originating in 2015 as the doctoral research of CEO George Netscher—and inspired by his own family's experience with Alzheimer's disease—SafelyYou was spun out of UC Berkeley’s Artificial Intelligence Research Lab, one of the top five AI research groups in the world. And today, our company is solving critical challenges in senior living, from resident falls and ER visits to staffing concerns, length of stay, and NOI. All helping ensure that communities can focus on improved care for residents while still reaching their financial goals.

SafelyYou is one of five most innovative fall technologies referenced in the Senate Falls Report (2019), a winner of the McKnight’s Tech Partner of the Year, and has been named to Fortune’s Impact 20 list, which recognizes companies making people’s lives better through innovation.
Your Role at SafelyYou

As a Lab Technician, you will support the engineering team by building, assembling, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware prototypes, test fixtures, and lab systems. This is a highly hands-on role that spans electronics assembly, mechanical prototype builds, system-level integration, and day-to-day lab operations. You will help turn engineering concepts into working prototypes by performing SMT soldering and rework, assembling 3D-printed and machined parts, building test jigs and fixtures, and supporting automated and remote test setups.

You will also assist with troubleshooting and repair of returned devices, lab shipment logistics, and maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient lab environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in clean and reliable builds, and thrives in a fast-moving product development environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assemble and rework electronic prototypes, including SMT and through-hole components

Perform fine hand soldering, PCB rework, wiring, and cable harness assembly

Build mechanical prototype assemblies using 3D-printed, injection-molded, CNC-machined, and/or off-the-shelf parts

Assemble, maintain, and troubleshoot test jigs and fixtures for bench validation and automated testing

Assist developers and engineers with remote test fixtures, including setup, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting

Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair returned or RMA devices in collaboration with engineers, and document findings

Support system-level builds including Ethernet switches, cabling, connectors, and basic server rack integration

Handle lab shipping and receiving logistics, including packaging outgoing units, receiving materials, and coordinating shipments

Set up and operate lab equipment such as soldering stations, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and bench power supplies

Assist engineers with prototype bring-up, debugging, measurements, and basic troubleshooting

Keep the lab organized, clean, safe, and efficient, and help maintain tools, consumables, components, and inventory

Follow ESD, safety, and lab best practices at all times

You don't need to meet every requirement to apply. We value curiosity, initiative, attention to detail, and a strong hands-on mindset.
