The Society of Critical Care Medicine is dedicated to advancing the care of critically ill patients, and they are seeking a Legal Affairs Specialist to support their legal, compliance, and governance functions. This role involves contract management, regulatory compliance, and providing legal support to various organizational processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supports contract lifecycle management, including intake, review, redlining, tracking, and archiving. Maintains and improves the contract lifecycle process, including templates, version control, approval workflows, and contract repository management
  • Reviews standard agreements and brings potential issues forward for general counsel review
  • Serves as secondary legal point of contact to maintain continuity of contracts, compliance, and regulatory deadlines
  • Maintains updated legal process documentation and contract lifecycle procedures to ensure seamless coverage
  • Supports copyright, permissions, licensing issues, and intellectual property inquiries related to publications, research, and educational content
  • Supports trademark applications, renewals, and usage guidelines
  • Supports the Society’s disclosure processes
  • Reviews disclosures for completeness, identifies legal or ethical concerns, and escalates issues as appropriate
  • Assists with board materials, agendas, minutes, resolutions, and policy updates
  • Maintains bylaws and Council policies
  • Supports the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee, ensuring regulatory compliance and the development of a diverse volunteer workforce
  • Maintains legal records, filings, and contract archives in accordance with the organizational document retention policy
  • Ensures proper archiving of legal documents, board materials, and corporate filings
  • Other Duties as Assigned to Carry out the Mission and Vision of SCCM

Skills

  • Paralegal certificate or paralegal experiences
  • Exceptional organizational, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate legal concepts clearly to non-legal audiences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and document management systems
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent judgment, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor's degree in legal studies, business, public administration, or related field preferred
  • Experience in a legal, compliance, contract management, or governance-related role, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
