ABOUT THE ROLE

The Licensing Agent is responsible for driving licensing revenue through the acquisition of new licensees, renewal of existing agreements, and effective management of licensing pipelines and agreements across Public Performance Rights (PR) and Reproduction Rights (RR).

This role focuses on proactive licensing activity, negotiation, and execution to ensure agreements are secured at favourable rates while maintaining compliance with applicable tariffs and regulatory frameworks governing PR and RR. The position requires a strong commercial mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to manage licensing processes across a range of verticals and use cases involving both performance and reproduction rights.

WHAT YOU’LL DO / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Identify, pursue, and secure new licensees requiring Public Performance Rights (PR) and Reproduction Rights (RR) licenses through outbound prospecting and inbound lead conversion

Engage licensees to renew expiring PR and RR agreements, negotiate terms to maintain or improve value and ensure continued compliance

Initiate, negotiate, review, and draft PR and RR licensing agreements using approved templates, including complex multi-right agreements, ensuring alignment with tariffs and regulatory frameworks established by the Copyright Board of Canada

Manage and maintain accurate pipeline, deal, and agreement data across PR and RR, including tracking deal value, activity, documentation, files, and folder structures

Utilize CRM systems to manage all PR and RR licensing activity, ensuring data accuracy, audit readiness, and up-to-date documentation of client interactions and agreements

Perform licensing administration, including report entry, follow-ups, payment tracking, and maintaining organized account portfolios

Conduct inbound and outbound communication with prospective and existing licensees, including responding to inquiries, following up on reports and payments, and handling phone and email communications with professionalism and efficiency

Provide clear guidance and education on PR and RR licensing requirements, Canadian copyright obligations, and the role of SOCAN

Collaborate with Legal, Finance, and Royalty Operations to ensure accurate execution of PR and RR licensing processes and data integrity

Stay informed on updates to tariffs, products, and internal processes to ensure accurate licensing and communication.

Identify and support process improvements, contributing to documentation, workflow optimization, and system enhancements.

Complete assigned projects and perform other duties as required.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING 

Post-secondary diploma or degree, or equivalent relevant work experience

Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in customer service with demonstrated excellence in client engagement

2+ years of proven sales success experience in a licensing, business development, or client-facing role

Experience managing a sales or licensing pipeline, including documenting deal value and client activity

In-depth understanding of Canadian copyright law, including Public Performance Rights (PR) and Reproduction Rights (RR)

Understanding of stakeholder needs across the music and broader media ecosystem

Digitally inclined, with familiarity across evolving business models (e.g., audio-visual, music services, user-generated content platforms)

Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel) and CRM/database systems

Strong oral and written communication skills

Bilingual in English and French

Strong professional communication etiquette

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships

Effective conflict resolution and customer service capabilities

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data and agreement handling

Analytical and adaptable in a fast-paced environment

Superior listening and problem-solving skills

Comfortable operating in ambiguous or evolving situations

Experience in the music industry or demonstrated passion for music and digital culture considered an asset

Experience in a professional licensing environment considered an asset
