About the job
Join Twilio's dynamic team as a Manager of CoGS. This role manages an accounting team in the US and India and is responsible for ensuring the monthly financial close is accurate and complete for CoGS, with a continuous emphasis on optimizing processes, and providing actionable insights. Reporting to the Director of Revenue and CoGS, this role offers the opportunity to interact closely with leaders of carrier relations, FP&A, and other business operations teams. The successful candidate will exude intense curiosity and a passion for accounting and analytics, as well as a commitment to fostering a team culture emphasizing continuous personal and professional growth and inclusivity.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
• Manage and continuously develop the CoGS team, with an emphasis on enhancing accuracy and efficiency, and in building a deep knowledge of business fluctuation implications to product margins.
• Manage and maintain the accounting team processes related to CoGS, including cost allocation, expense recognition, and accruals.
• Be responsible for understanding the core drivers of CoGS on gross margin at the product level to enable and support accounting accuracy and completeness and to deep dive into data and metrics to deliver actionable analyses.
• Manage, support, and maintain system integrated workpapers to automate reconciliations, month-over-month accrual flushes, and predictive and other ad-hoc models to identify areas requiring further accounting analysis.
• Build trusted relationships with key business partners, including the carrier relations team, FP&A product teams, and data teams.
• Model strong intellectual curiosity, especially in cross-functionally collaboration to analyze and interpret cost data to provide financial insights across the business and in monthly and quarterly financial flux reporting.
• Maintain a focus on continuous process improvement leveraging automation wherever possible.
• Partner proactively with Corporate FP&A on forecasts and period over period variances.
• Lead and assist with special projects, including process improvement initiatives, new product initiatives, system implementations, and other ad hoc projects.

Required:
• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in accounting or finance related fields and a minimum of 5-7 years’ of relevant accounting experience with increasing scope, including strong US GAAP and accounting process knowledge, and experience understanding technical accounting standards.
• A proven ability to analyze, interpret, and effectively communicate financial results, variances, and trends. Model strong communication and interpersonal skills - numbers are key, but a successful business is built with people. Effective cross-functional communication to both financial and non-financial audiences are critical to making an impact.
• A diligent self-starter, with intense curiosity, and a proven ability to take initiative and be proactive in addressing complex issues.
You have the ability to cut through the noise to identify the core components of a problem, and then drive toward an outcome that optimizes the impact.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including non-standard hours, to effectively manage the team located both in the US and India.
• Advanced spreadsheet skills - your team’s workpapers are efficient and intuitive. You thrive in complexity but strive for simplicity and automation.
• Strong experience ensuring and modeling compliance with process controls, including SOX. Best practices are second nature to you and your team continually keeps this at the forefront.
Desired:
• Experience with cost accounting, especially in the telecommunications industry.
• Experience at either high-growth technology startups or well-established companies.
• Experience with Oracle ERP and Smartview.
• Experience with data modeling and visualization tools.
• Experience with Alteryx and Airtable.
Location
This role will be remote but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, or the surrounding areas.
