Ledpax develops innovative LED lighting products for commercial, architectural, industrial, and specialty lighting applications. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Product Design Engineer to support the design and development of new lighting products from concept through production.
This is a remote 1099 contractor position offering flexible scheduling, ongoing project opportunities, and the potential to transition into a full-time employee role for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Design LED lighting fixtures and related mechanical components
- Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings
- Design sheet metal, machined, extruded, cast, and plastic components
- Develop thermal management solutions for LED products
- Support prototype development, testing, and validation
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Prepare engineering documentation and manufacturing files
- Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners
- Evaluate designs for manufacturability, reliability, performance, and cost
- Participate in product development from concept through production release
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical product design experience
- Minimum 3 years of LED lighting industry experience
- Professional experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, Onshape, Autodesk Fusion, or similar
- Experience creating production-ready engineering drawings and documentation
- Experience designing products for manufacturing
- Strong understanding of:
- Thermal management and heatsink design
- Sheet metal fabrication
- CNC machining
- Plastic part design
- Mechanical assemblies
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Autodesk Fusion
- Experience designing commercial or architectural lighting products
- Knowledge of UL, ETL, DLC, and lighting industry standards
- Experience working with overseas manufacturing partners
- FEA and thermal analysis experience
- Prototype development and testing experience
Education
Formal engineering degree preferred but not required.
Equivalent product design, manufacturing, CAD, and lighting industry experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
