Azure Migration Sr. Engineer
We are seeking a contract Azure Migration Engineer to execute a tenant-to-tenant Azure workload migration. This is a hands-on technical role with direct accountability for migrating files, and Azure workloads from a source Azure tenant to a new target tenant. You know you're a fit if you have at least 5 years' of migration execution experience and a working understanding of the identity, networking, and governance boundaries specific to cross-tenant work. This is not a design-only engagement — the engineer is expected to own and execute.
Responsibilities
Design and execute the end-to-end tenant-to-tenant migration plan across file, authentication, connected apps
Configure cross-tenant infrastructure such as B2B trust policies, subscription and management group mapping between source and target tenants, etc.
Deploy Azure File Sync, configure storage tiering (Hot/Cool/Archive), author lifecycle management policies, and execute share cutover with minimal downtime. Map file share(s) and ensure user access.
Configure and validate identity and access controls across tenants: Entra ID guest accounts, cross-tenant role assignments, and service principals for migration tooling
Migrate on-premises SQL databases to Azure and validate integrity and performance post-migration
Execute Azure-to-Azure SQL migrations by designing pipeline-based data movement (ADF or equivalent), configuring the replication or backup/restore for cross-tenant transfer, and defining failover and rollback strategy
Assess and remediate stored procedures for SQL Server version compatibility (2012 → 2019)
Align networking and security across tenants
Author cutover runbooks and automation scripts (PowerShell/CLI, Terraform) to ensure repeatable, auditable execution
Produce and maintain migration status reporting for delivery leadership throughout the engagement
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a related field, along with 5+ years experience in Cloud migrations
Demonstrated experience executing Azure tenant-to-tenant migrations
Proficiency with Azure migration tooling such as Azure Migrate, AzCopy, Azure File Sync, Azure Database Migration Service (DMS), Database Migration Assistant (DMA), SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA), and Azure Data Factory
Strong scripting capability in PowerShell and Azure CLI; proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure automation preferred
Working knowledge of Azure networking in cross-tenant contexts: VNet peering, Private Endpoints, DNS forwarding, NSGs
Experience with Entra ID in multi-tenant configurations, including B2B guest management and cross-tenant RBAC
Hands-on SQL Server migration experience: target platform selection (Azure SQL DB, MI, IaaS), assessment tooling, minimal-downtime cutover, and stored procedure remediation across SQL Server versions (2012-2019)
Ability to operate independently, own decisions in ambiguous situations, and communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders
Certifications : AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-040 (Nice to have), and DP-300
Experience working in regulated environments, i.e. Soc2, HIPAA, FedRAMP, CMMC, etc preferred

This position may require infrequent though unlikely travel (to client sites).
Team members must be able to accommodate a working schedule of 8:30am - 5:30p EST Monday through Friday.

Pay Information
There are a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to - skill sets, experience and training, and licensure and certifications. A reasonable estimate of the pay rate is $70 - $90/hr (subject to change).
