Operational EH&S – Safety Specialist $90/hr

Base pay range: $47.00/hr - $90.00/hr

Position: Operational EH&S – Safety Specialist

Type: Hourly contract

Compensation: $47–$90/hour

Location: Remote

Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

Role Responsibilities
• Annotate and evaluate AI‑generated text against defined safety criteria such as bias, misinformation, unsafe reasoning, and disallowed content.
• Apply harm taxonomies and safety guidelines consistently, including in ambiguous or complex cases.
• Document evaluation decisions and reasoning to help improve safety guidelines and frameworks.
• Identify operational and safety‑related risks that automated systems may miss.
• Contribute high‑quality human data to support AI safety research, model improvements, and risk audits.
• Collaborate asynchronously with safety and research teams in a structured project environment.

Requirements
• Background in environmental health and safety (EHS/EH&S), lab safety, biosafety, or occupational safety.
• Experience managing compliance programs, safety training, or incident investigations.
• Strong understanding of hazard prevention, incident documentation, and enforcement of safety protocols.
• Ability to adapt operational safety principles to AI systems and data evaluation contexts.
• High attention to detail with a structured, analytical approach to decision‑making.
• Comfortable making consistent judgments in nuanced or ambiguous scenarios.
• Ability to clearly document reasoning and feedback.
• Comfortable working independently in a remote, project‑based environment.
