Jefferson County Government is seeking a Paralegal for the Human Services Litigation Team of the County Attorney's Office. The role involves providing legal representation and support in various human services-related cases, including child abuse investigations and mental health cases, primarily focusing on preparing and organizing documents for electronic discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing legal files for court hearings
  • Direct contact with the public, caseworkers, therapists, opposing attorneys, pro-se parents, and the Court
  • Filing time sensitive documents
  • Assisting with trial preparation
  • Preparing correspondence and a variety of legal documents
  • Electronic filing of state court documents
  • Drafting routine pleadings in state court
  • Preparing, reviewing and organizing documents for electronic discovery
  • Redacting, numbering and compiling files
  • Drafting privilege logs
  • Performing a variety of clerical functions to relieve attorneys of day-to-day administrative functions of the office
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills

  • A minimum of one year of related work experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis. Human Services casework is considered relevant experience
  • Associates Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Paralegal certificate or associate degree and 3 years of related work experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis. Human Services casework is considered relevant experience
  • Prior experience working in a law office or legal department
  • Familiarity with the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure and experience with electronic discovery and electronic court filing preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Independent critical thinking and analysis
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude
  • Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint etc.) Adobe Acrobat Pro and experiment with new software and systems
  • Ability to read and interpret statutes and legislation
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Attention to detail and deadlines
