Project Engineer, D&C
The City of New York is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods on its streets. The Project Engineer in the Design & Construction unit will support the development of Street Improvement Projects aimed at enhancing safety for all road users while collaborating with internal teams and preparing technical drawings using AutoCAD.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of Street Improvement Projects that enhance safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and motor vehicles
- Collaborate with internal units to address identified safety concerns
- Be responsible for preparing drawings and details using AutoCAD
- Perform street design work of moderate difficulty and responsibility
- Assist with research, investigations, or studies related to street design functions or activities
- Participate in meetings and conduct other related duties
- Field work may be required to determine field conditions and design constructability in order to refine conceptual designs
Skills
- Candidate must be serving permanently in the civil service title of Assistant Civil Engineer, or reachable on the list
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering
- Preference will be given to candidates who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, GUIDESign, AutoTurn, and Microsoft Office Suite
- A familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD, NYC Street Design Manual, and NACTO publications
- Excellent writing and oral skills are preferred
- Candidates interested in this position will be asked to work collaboratively, to cultivate continued professional development, use state-of-the-practice technology for plan development, and to effectively communicate through verbal and written forms with all stakeholders
