The County of San Luis Obispo is offering a dynamic career opportunity for a Project Manager position within the Public Works Department. The successful candidate will manage a variety of construction projects, ensuring effective coordination and delivery from inception to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a wide range of projects (including high-profile projects)
  • Effectively coordinate with internal and external teams
  • Deliver mid to large construction projects on behalf of the County
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget on various projects
  • Ensure projects make their way through the delivery process from project inception to bidding, and onto construction and close out
  • Prepare requests for proposals and bid packets for consultants/contractors
  • Evaluate proposals after they are received
  • Coordinate the preparation of and assure that construction documents for projects are biddable and buildable
  • Ensure that they meet project goals and applicable standards

Skills

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, City & Regional Planning, Organizational Leadership or a related field
  • For Project Manager I: No additional experience
  • For Project Manager II: Two (2) years of project management experience in building or infrastructure design and/or construction management, or work equivalent to Projects Manager I
  • For Project Manager III: Either A: Four (4) years of experience in building or infrastructure design and/or construction management that included at least one year of project management, OR B: Two (2) years of experience performing duties equivalent to a Projects Manager II
  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of application
  • A valid CALIFORNIA driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is desired
