Job Description - Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst

Reports To - Director of QA

Location: Remote
Department: Engineering

Position Summary

The QA Manager leads an assigned portion of the QA team within AxisCare's embedded engineering model. QA engineers and analysts sit within engineering teams, and the QA Manager serves as the direct people leader for their assigned group. This role owns the development, health, and day-to-day performance of direct reports while operating within the broader quality standards and strategy established by the Director of QA. The QA Manager is a people leader and quality advocate, focused on team-level execution, individual team member growth, and ensuring quality is consistently built into delivery across their assigned teams.

Key Responsibilities

People

Direct manager for an assigned group of QA engineers and analysts embedded across teams

Owns hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and career development for direct reports

Holds regular one-on-ones and provides ongoing coaching and feedback

Creates clear growth plans and supports development conversations for each direct report

Contributes to a team culture grounded in psychological safety, accountability, and continuous learning

Actively supports the long-term development of QA Analysts toward QA Engineer roles, leveraging AI-assisted tools and coding skills as those capabilities become a baseline expectation across the team

Quality Standards & Process

Applies and reinforces QA standards, testing methodologies, and quality benchmarks established at the Director level across assigned teams

Ensures consistency in tooling, test coverage expectations, and best practices within their group

Monitors quality metrics and reporting for direct reports, surfacing trends and improvement opportunities to the Director of QA

Manages bug tracking and resolution processes within assigned teams

Supports the broader adoption of AI-assisted testing tools and automation as a baseline expectation for the team

Cross-Functional Partnership

Partners with Engineering Managers and Product leaders at the team level on quality strategy, risk, and release readiness

Collaborates with engineering leads on test automation strategy, CI/CD integration, and test environment health

Communicates quality status, risks, and recommendations clearly to the Director of QA and relevant stakeholders

Supports capacity planning within their group and advocates for sustainable workloads

Escalates organizational quality risks and systemic issues to the Director of QA

Direct reports are growing, engaged, and clear on their career paths

Quality standards established by the Director of QA are applied consistently within assigned teams

Engineering teams view QA as a collaborative partner, not a gatekeeper

The team is proficient in modern QA practices including automation tooling and AI-assisted testing

Quality risks are surfaced early and communicated clearly up the chain

New team members onboard smoothly and ramp quickly

Bug tracking and resolution within assigned teams is timely and well managed

QA Analysts within the group are progressing toward QA Engineer capabilities, actively developing AI-assisted testing and coding skills as part of their growth plans

What We’re Looking For (Required Qualifications)

Experience in software quality assurance with a background in people management or team leadership

Mid to senior-level management experience leading QA professionals and managing quality outcomes within a technology organization

Proven experience leading and developing QA professionals

Strong coaching, feedback, and performance management skills

Solid understanding of modern QA practices including automation, CI/CD, and agile development

Experience in an embedded QA model or similar distributed team structure

Ability to collaborate and align with cross-functional teams at the team and engineering manager level

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate quality data into clear recommendations

Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences

Familiarity with AI-assisted testing tools and the ability to champion their adoption

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field preferred

Equivalent professional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

What We'd Be Excited to Find (Preferred Qualifications)

Prior hands-on QA engineering experience at the analyst or engineer level

Experience with tools such as Playwright, TestRail, or similar

Familiarity with cloud-based SaaS applications and agile delivery environments

Experience in the home care or healthcare technology industry is a plus

QA or project management certifications such as ISTQB, CSTE, or PMP are a plus
