Responsibilities
- Handle a large volume of incoming phone calls from patients, insurance carriers, and physician offices
- Collect outstanding patient balances and establish payment arrangements
- Update patient and guarantor accounts with demographic and insurance information
- Address customer inquiries, disputes, and complaints, escalating as necessary
- Perform additional duties as required and assigned
Skills
- High school graduate or GED certificate
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a physician billing or third-party payer environment
- Understanding of contracts, insurance benefits, and billing requirements
- Ability to navigate the payer adjudication process
- Experience with patient financial and practice management systems, such as Epic
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Previous call center or claims experience in an academic healthcare setting
- Experience with electronic billing systems
- Additional experience in a healthcare-related environment
