[Remote] Software Development Engineer, AI

The Early Career Software Development Engineer, AI will assist in designing and implementing human-in-the-loop AI applications and enhance existing open-source products using various technologies.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design implementation of human-in-the-loop AI applications that leverage large language models (LLMs), vector databases, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques
- Build your skills with React, NextJS, DataBricks, Python, and Postgres to enhance our existing open-source products on AWS
- Rapidly learn new domains and apply AI and machine learning methods to enhance campaign and civic technology products
- Conduct structured experimentation to diagnose problems, validate solutions, and communicate findings effectively
- Evaluate emerging AI frameworks and tools (including MCP and agentic systems) for integration into production environments
Skills
- 1-3 years of experience in software development
- Strong technical training in computer science or engineering
- Demonstrated passion for LLM integration in web, mobile, and backend systems
- Experience with prompt engineering, RAG workflows, and agentic AI systems
- Practical experience as an intern or junior engineer using scrum and github
- Experience with cloud infrastructure
- Committed to responsible and ethical AI development
- Awareness of model limitations, bias, and performance considerations
- Effective collaboration skills
- Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated domain expertise by achievement of a relevant secondary degree
- Experience building or scaling AI functions in prior roles
- Experience as a full stack developer with React, NextJS, DataBricks, Python, and Postgres
- Prior experience as a contributor to an open-source project
- Experience working in student government, civic tech, political campaigns, or democracy-focused initiatives
- Experience helping organize grassroots efforts or movements as a volunteer
- Desire to help make people matter more than money in politics
