[Remote/WFM] Oromo Interpreter and Document Translator

Job Description

Oromo- English Interpreter/Translator is an independent contractor, work-from-home position. The Remote Interpreter/Translator would be responsible for servicing video interpretation and phone interpretation appointments on an as-needed basis. The contractor may also be asked to complete document translations, proofreading and/or formatting on an as-needed basis and may be asked to do language assessments of other Oromo speakers as well. A good understanding of Microsoft Word and PDF.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Video Interpretation: interpreting verbal Oromo <-> verbal English via our online video interpretation system (previous interpretation experience preferred, however we will provide on-the-job training)

- Phone Interpretation: interpreting verbal Oromo <-> verbal English via contractor's personal phone (previous interpretation experience preferred, however we will provide on-the-job training)

- Document Translation: translating English documents into written... Oromo via Lexikeet's online system (previous translation experience preferred, however we will provide on-the-job training)

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking both the source and target languages. (Oromo-Enlglish)
• Native or near-native fluency in the target language preferred.

- High spoken English and Oromo

- Medium to high computer ability.

- Committed to being on-time for all assignments.

- Self-motivated & self-organized.

- Quiet home environment (this is a work-from-home position)

- (for phone interpretation) Home access to a phone

- (for video interpretation) Home access to a smart phone, Chromebook, laptop or desktop (must have webcam, mic, and speaker)

- (if chosen for document translation) Ability to type Oromo

- Minimum home internet speed of 2 Mbps Upload and 20 Mbps Download (test your speed at https://speedof.me)
