Role: Specialty Coder Sr – General Surgery (Remote – Temp to Perm)
Location: Remote (Candidates must reside in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, or NM)
Pay Range: $35 - $40/hr
Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Duration: Contract (12 weeks, Temp-to-Perm opportunity)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Specialty Coder Sr – General Surgery to support high-volume inpatient and outpatient coding operations. The coder will be responsible for accurate assignment of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT codes based on clinical documentation and diagnostic results.

This role requires strong attention to detail, high coding accuracy (95%+), and the ability to work collaboratively with clinical documentation teams and health information management staff to ensure complete and compliant medical coding and billing.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT codes for inpatient and outpatient encounters.
• Review clinical documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Abstract and enter data into Epic EMR and other hospital systems.
• Follow official ICD-10-CM/PCS and AMA CPT coding guidelines.
• Collaborate with CDI (Clinical Documentation Improvement) and HIM teams.
• Maintain ≥95% coding accuracy.
• Support denial reduction and revenue integrity initiatives.
• Assist with additional departmental coding tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma (must submit with application).
• Minimum 2 years of coding experience.
• Strong proficiency with Epic EMR system.
• Must have reliable remote setup (laptop + dual monitors required).

Preferred Qualifications
• General Surgery specialty coding experience.
• AAPC certification in General Surgery (COBGC preferred).
