Full-time

Prefect builds and operates resilient, Pythonic orchestration and MCP platforms -- Prefect OSS, Prefect Cloud, FastMCP OSS, and Horizon -- used for mission-critical workloads.

Our Vision: Prefect will define automation for the context era.
Our Mission: Curate an intelligent context layer that delivers the right information at the right time.

Our remote first company is singularly focused on this vision and mission, and every team member directly contributes to their advancement. We've carefully created a supportive, high-performance culture - the operating system of our company - that empowers our team to do the best work of their careers and achieve their personal and professional aspirations. Our company operates both open-source and commercial offerings, partnering with Fortune 500 companies, data innovators, and fast-growing digitally native startups.

We are looking for folks who want to join a remote-first team #LI-Remote to continue building an equally amazing company, product, and developer community. Role Summary:
As a Senior Sales Engineer on the Go-to-Market team at Prefect, you will own the technical relationship with our most strategic customers and prospects. You will lead complex evaluations end-to-end — from discovery through architecture review, POC, and production deployment — partnering directly with platform engineering, data, and ML teams at enterprise organizations.

Our customers increasingly span both traditional data engineering and AI-native use cases — deploying agents, integrating MCP servers, and building durable autonomous workflows. You'll help them architect solutions across the full surface of Prefect's platform. We expect our Senior Sales Engineer to operate with autonomy and ownership — shaping the SE playbook as much as running it.

You will develop repeatable methodologies, contribute to product direction through customer signal, and help scale the GTM function beyond yourself. You will report to George Coyne, Director of Engineering, GTM.

Expectations (you will):
Develop a clear, technical understanding of Prefect's platform — including durable execution, AI agent orchestration, MCP, and the broader ecosystem of competing solutions

Lead complex, multi-stakeholder technical evaluations with senior engineering stakeholders across extended enterprise sales cycles

Build and support long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with enterprise clients

Present and demonstrate the value of Prefect from a technical perspective to prospective clients

Help bring in new business to Prefect, achieving monthly revenue goals

Shape product roadmap by synthesizing patterns across customer engagements into clear, actionable feedback for product and engineering

Mentor and elevate other members of the GTM team through deal collaboration, technical coaching, and knowledge sharing

Champion our culture and foster a collaborative work environment

Embody ownership: contribute and advocate for your ideas, while also preventing projects from failing

What You'll Do:
Engage directly with customers to design, develop, and deploy solutions using Prefect Cloud

Build production-grade demos, reference architectures, and proof-of-concept deployments that demonstrate Prefect's value in a prospect's actual environment

Drive competitive displacement from legacy orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, Step Functions, Luigi) by articulating Prefect's technical differentiation

Develop and deliver technical content — blog posts, webinars, tutorials, and conference talks — that builds Prefect's credibility in the data and AI engineering community

Help customers design and deploy AI-native workflows — including agent orchestration, MCP tool use, and durable execution patterns for autonomous systems

Develop repeatable technical sales methodologies — playbooks, competitive battlecards, demo environments — that scale the SE function beyond yourself

Your Qualifications:
5+ years of experience as a solutions/sales engineer, with at least 3 years supporting enterprise sales cycles

Strong Python skills and hands-on experience building and deploying data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, or ML infrastructure

Deep familiarity with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) including compute, storage, networking, and IAM

Experience with workflow orchestration, job scheduling, or pipeline management tools — whether as a user, builder, or seller

Working knowledge of containers (Docker, Kubernetes), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi), and CI/CD systems

Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-month technical evaluations with senior engineering stakeholders

Comfort operating autonomously in a fast-moving, small-team environment where you'll shape the playbook as much as run it

Genuine curiosity about how customers work and a drive to understand their problems before pitching solutions

Nice to Have:
Experience migrating organizations off Airflow, Dagster, Step Functions, or similar orchestration tools

Familiarity with MCP, LLM application frameworks, agent architectures, or durable execution patterns for AI workflows

Background in data engineering, platform engineering, or DevOps before moving into sales engineering

Track record of producing technical content (blogs, talks, open-source contributions) that built pipeline or community

Experience with data warehouses, object storage, and observability tooling (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Datadog)
