Staff Engineer

You'll serve as a technical leader and force multiplier for one of our engineering squads at Jove. As a Staff Engineer, you'll guide and unblock senior engineers while shaping technical direction for our case management platform used by personal injury law firms. 

What You'll Do 

Guide and unblock Senior Engineers on complex technical challenges 

Lead technical design and architecture decisions for major features 

Collaborate with the Director of Engineering and Product team on long-term technical strategy 

Review code and provide technical mentorship across your squad 

Drive engineering best practices around testing, observability, and code quality 

Participate in daily standups and bi-weekly sprint planning sessions 

Ship code alongside your team while maintaining technical leadership responsibilities 

Identify and resolve technical debt and performance bottlenecks 

Contribute to infrastructure decisions and GitOps workflows 

Ensure features are properly instrumented for monitoring and debugging 

Who You'll Work With 

Report directly to the Director of Engineering 

Lead and mentor a squad of 5-6 Senior and Associate Engineers 

Partner with the other Staff Engineers and Project Manager on cross-squad initiatives 

Meet regularly with Product Managers and Designers on long-term roadmap planning 

Collaborate with the QA Engineer on your squad to ensure quality standards 

Engage with the Director of Engineering and Project Manager on technical strategy 

What We're Looking For 

Extensive experience building and scaling production web applications 

Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and full-stack development 

Proven track record of technical leadership and mentoring engineers 

Strong architectural and system design skills
