Position Specific Summary

Student Advisory Board Student Employee Overview

The GW Safety and Security Student Advisory Board (SAB) aims to create greater transparency and partnership between GW's student body and university administrators regarding campus safety. In collaboration with the greater student body, the advisory board identifies campus safety concerns, generates initiatives, and provides feedback to leadership.

Each academic year, the SAB meets monthly in-person (~4 meetings a semester). Meetings take place in the evening, when students are available and last 1-1.5 hours. The Division provides dinner for all attendees.

Primary Responsibilities
• Recruit SAB members from student organizations
• Plan the meeting agenda

Solicit questions from the members for discussion

Research safety and security initiatives at other schools to stimulate discussion

Work with University Resilience and GWPD leadership to solicit topics
• Plan and handle meeting logistics

Reserve the meeting room

Order food
• Facilitate the SAB meetings

Take and disseminate notes

Follow up with staff members on items students have raised
• Develop and disseminate an end-of-semester report and annual report
• Correspond with members about any questions or concerns they may have
• Solicit feedback/ideas for improvement at the end of each semester and survey the members about their experience

Standard Position Description

The student will assist in the management and leading of special projects. Tasks may include: leading and organizing mid to large scale projects, designing project timelines and goals, performing research, coordinating with stakeholders and the project team, reporting updates and outcomes with project leaders, building and organizing leadership development programs for students, managing student staff. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.
