Applications Engineer I
Motorola Solutions is a global community dedicated to enhancing public safety through advanced communication technologies. The Applications Engineer I will support the Sales Engineering team by conducting technical activities related to applications/solutions engineering and customer support, while also defining and testing new products and features.
Responsibilities
- Design and test complete solutions that solve unique technical problems
- Define new products and features to fill gaps and perform product evaluations and field trials for new product features and accessories
- Provide comprehensive support to customers and the sales team through troubleshooting, system integration engineering, product recommendations, and technical analysis via phone, online, and in person
- Work individually and with Engineering teams to support these requests via in-house or field testing and validation
- Test and harden existing features through firmware and hardware changes in realistic applications
- Support the Sales Engineering team by helping prepare for demos, training, testing, or recreating bugs and issues they see in the field
- Create and maintain customer-facing documents and content including manuals, guides, videos, application notes, etc. to support customers and sales more efficiently
- Oversee and assist the RMA and Loaner teams by providing guidance, equipment recommendations, and vetting customer requests
- Travel requirements – Up to 25% travel to provide in-person engineering support to customers and the sales team, including demos, troubleshooting, system integration, and training
Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical field
- Proficiency in instruments such as spectrum analyzers, multimeters, signal generators, and other RF and data network test equipment and testing
- Must possess an ability to work independently, take initiative, multitask, and effectively interact with cross-functional teams and customers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must to effectively communicate with customers and internally across the entire organization
- Excellent organizational skills and attentiveness to details
- Proficiency with PC office applications and mobile devices
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Willingness to travel and work at customer sites
- NOTE - Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts
- Employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check
- Proficiency with TCP/IP protocol and networking
- Experience with operating and testing IP radios/modems
- Knowledge of wireless communication systems, RF signal propagation, and digital communication technologies
- Experience in testing embedded radio communication systems
- Familiarity with Linux
- Proficiency with programming languages such as Python or C/C++
