Data Engineer
FanDuel Group is the premier mobile gaming company in the United States and Canada, seeking a Data Engineer to join their growing data platform team. The role involves designing and maintaining reliable, secure, and cost-efficient data platforms to support analytics, machine learning, and business decision-making across the company.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to design and code reviews, learning and applying platform and development best practices to build high-quality, maintainable data pipelines
- Monitor Databricks and Airflow jobs and queries, helping identify performance issues and working with senior engineers to implement improvements
- Assist in the design and evolution of data platform components built on Databricks and Airflow, with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, and cost awareness
- Author and maintain clear documentation for pipelines, workflows, data models, and platform usage to support operational excellence and onboarding
- Partner with platform, analytics, and engineering teams to support adoption of modern platform features and data governance standards
- Build and operate production-grade batch and near–real-time data pipelines, including basic monitoring, alerting, and operational runbooks
- Learn and apply platform best practices by collaborating closely with senior engineers and participating in incident response and postmortems
- Communicate findings, improvements, and operational insights through dashboards, queries, or short written updates to help teams make informed decisions
Skills
- 1–4 years of experience working with Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools, including: Building and maintaining DAGs for production workloads. Understanding retries, scheduling, dependencies, and basic sensor usage
- 1–4 years of experience developing in Python, with familiarity in writing readable, testable, and maintainable code
- 1–4 years of experience working with Databricks or a comparable data platform, including: Building ETL/ELT pipelines using Delta Lake or similar technologies. Basic familiarity with SQL Warehouses, job compute, and performance concepts
- Experience working in a cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or GCP), with exposure to: Cloud storage (e.g., S3), IAM concepts, and managed services. Secure access patterns and data handling best practices
- Some experience or exposure to infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred), with interest in learning how platform infrastructure is deployed and managed
- Familiarity with Git-based workflows and CI/CD concepts, especially as they relate to data or platform engineering
- Exposure to data quality, observability, or lineage tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, Datafold) is a plus
- Familiarity with dbt or an understanding of how it fits into a modern data stack is a plus
- Experience supporting BI, analytics, or data science teams
- Familiarity with version control, CI/CD, and collaborative development workflows
- Exposure to data governance, privacy, or compliance practices
- Eagerness to learn new technologies and contribute to the growth of the team
