Struers, the world’s leading manufacturer of material-testing equipment and consumables, is seeking a Field Service Engineer located in the Hartford, CT area to support customers and drive service success throughout the New England territory.

This is a remote, field-based position offering a company-owned vehicle, a 5-day workweek (home on weekends), day shift only, generous paid time off, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Position Overview

The Field Service Engineer provides onsite customer service, maintenance, calibration, warranty, and break-fix repairs for precision materialographic sample preparation and analysis equipment. Customers include Fortune 500 companies across the automotive, electronics, telecommunications, and aerospace industries.

Engineers work from a home office with scheduling, technical support, and training provided by the U.S. headquarters in Westlake, Ohio. This role is part of a collaborative team of 16 service engineers across the field and headquarters and includes participation in annual training and regular technical knowledge sharing. National and occasional international travel is required.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Travel weekly to customer sites within the assigned territory

Perform factory-level installation, repair, retrofits, upgrades, calibration, and preventive maintenance on mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment

Provide professional customer support via onsite visits, phone, email, and written correspondence

Promote preventive maintenance contracts, calibration services, spare parts, consumables, and equipment sales

Maintain accurate and timely service documentation, customer records, and visit reports

Manage and maintain appropriate spare parts inventory within the service vehicle

Qualifications

Associate degree (AE) or equivalent certificate in electronic technology from an accredited technical school, or equivalent military experience

2–3 years of field service experience supporting electromechanical equipment

Strong electronic troubleshooting skills with knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics

Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams

Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills

Proficiency with MS Windows, Outlook, and Microsoft Office applications

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Ability to work effectively from a home office

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This position requires the ability to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential physical requirements include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and tools weighing up to 80 pounds; stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods while performing service activities; and use hand and power tools requiring manual dexterity. The role requires the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and travel regularly to customer sites. Work is performed primarily at customer locations and may involve exposure to typical industrial environments with appropriate personal protective equipment provided.
