Junior Accountant
Healthix is a company looking for a Junior Accountant to provide general support to the Controller within the Finance Department. The role involves transactional accounting, month-end close support, systems and technology maintenance, process improvement, and collaboration with various departments.
Responsibilities
- Enter and process vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and credit card transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Prepare and process weekly check runs and ACH/wire payments
- Reconcile vendor statements and follow up on outstanding balances
- Assist with recording payroll journal entries and benefits allocations
- Support grant voucher preparation and submissions under state and federal guidelines
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly
- Prepare supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts (AP, AR, prepaid, accrued expenses)
- Assist in ensuring accuracy of data posted in the general ledger
- Help compile documentation for audits and grant reporting
- Maintain organized electronic files and ensure proper documentation in accounting systems
- Support the integration of expense management and AP automation tools (e.g., Bill.com, Expensify, Concur)
- Assist in testing and documenting workflows as systems are upgraded or automated
- Use Excel/Google Sheets to build reconciliations, trackers, and basic dashboards
- Identify inefficiencies in manual processes and suggest small improvements
- Document step-by-step accounting procedures for consistency and training purposes
- Partner with the Senior Accountant to adopt new technology and transition away from spreadsheets where possible
- Work cross-departmentally with Operations, Development, and Programs to collect documentation and resolve coding questions
- Provide responsive support to staff on expense reimbursement, vendor setup, and payment inquiries
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel (pivot tables, lookups), and Google Workspace
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Eagerness to learn, adapt, and grow within a modernizing finance function
- 1–2 years of relevant accounting or finance experience (internships, nonprofit, or business office experience preferred)
- Familiarity with AP automation tools, expense reporting systems, or Salesforce
