Legal Billing Specialist
Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC is a law firm with 300 attorneys seeking a full-time Billing Specialist to support their Accounting Department. The role involves preparing client pre-bills, coordinating invoice processes, and ensuring accurate billing practices with a focus on customer service.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and edit client pre-bills with accuracy and attention to detail
- Coordinate the distribution of pre-bills and follow up with attorneys to ensure timely review, processing, and generation of client invoices
- Respond promptly to attorney and client billing requests, ensuring all inquiries are addressed in a professional and efficient manner
- Conduct monthly reviews of Work in Process (WIP) aging and follow up to guarantee accounts are billed without delay
- Ensure that the Client Management System is up-to-date with name, address, billing group/formats, etc
- Review Unapplied and Retainer accounts monthly and ensure timely application to client accounts
- Assist with special projects as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative
- Perform additional duties as required
Skills
- Legal background required, with a solid understanding of billing practices in a law firm or professional services environment
- Strong analytical skills required, with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy in financial records
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; advanced skills in data management and reporting are advantageous
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, with the ability to interact effectively with attorneys, clients, and colleagues
- Collaborative team player who can also work independently, demonstrating initiative and accountability
- Customer service–focused mindset
- 1–2 years of billing processing experience preferred, with demonstrated ability to manage complex billing cycles
- Experience with the Aderant Accounting System preferred; familiarity with other legal billing platforms is a plus
