The Colocation Technician role involves building and maintaining Cloud Computing Infrastructure, including the installation and troubleshooting of networking hardware while ensuring the highest standards for safety and security.
Responsibilities
- Installation and configuration of routers, switches and DWDM hardware
- Troubleshoot fiber optic and copper cabling, network installations and configuration
- Coordinating colocation remote hands for new capacity installations
- Coordinating colocation remote hands and eyes for any network issues
- Resolving colocation facility issues
- Identify, coordinate, and remediate outside plant (OSP) connectivity issues
- Participating in small to mid-size projects creating or expanding colocation sites
- Building relationships with remote facilities to ensure swift response times to events
- Performing site audits to ensure safety and quality meets AWS standards
- Improving all operational processes within each site and/or cage
- Updating AWS tools
- Providing status updates to stakeholders via internal tools
- Decommissioning of cabling and network hardware in collaboration with partner teams as needed
- Physical Requirements (all physical requirements may be done with reasonable accommodations)
- This position has a physical component requiring the ability to lift & rack equipment up to 40lbs; it may require working in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines
- This role involves up to 60% travel, the vast majority is local travel but may have potential to include some including some international travel at times
Skills
- 1+ years of computer networking experience
- 1+ years of Linux operating systems experience
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- Experience in computer networking
- Experience working with Linux operating systems
- Can lift and rack equipment up to 40 pounds
- Experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair
- Can work in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines
- Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure
- Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system
- Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies
- Experience working in a data center environment (racking and stacking gear, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment)
