The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing payroll operations with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and financial reporting. This role ensures payroll is processed in accordance with all applicable tax laws and regulatory requirements, while also supporting General Ledger (GL) activities and the financial close process. Exposure to global payroll is a plus, with opportunities to support international expansion. 

Key Responsibilities 

Manage end-to-end payroll processing with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness 

Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and payroll regulations 

Oversee payroll tax filings, payments, and reporting (e.g., W-2s, 941s, and other statutory filings) 

Stay current on changes in tax legislation and payroll compliance requirements 

Own payroll month-end close, including payroll journal entries and payroll-related balance sheet reconciliations 

Perform payroll account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies 

Partner with Accounting/Finance to support month-end and year-end close 

Maintain strong internal controls and support audit requirements (including SOX, if applicable) 

Collaborate with HR on compensation, benefits, and employee data changes 

Manage payroll systems and ensure data integrity across platforms 

Drive continuous improvement across payroll workflows, controls, and documentation as the company scales globally 

Required Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 

5+ years of payroll experience 

Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance, filings, and regulatory requirements 

Solid understanding of General Ledger accounting and payroll journal entries 

Experience with account reconciliations and financial close processes 

Familiarity with payroll systems and ERP platforms (e.g., ADP, Netsuite) 

Advanced Excel skills (XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas, working with large datasets) 

High attention to detail and strong organizational skills 

 Preferred Qualifications 

Experience with multi-state or global payroll operations 

CPP or similar certification 

Experience with payroll system implementations or integrations
