Social Media and Community Manager
Tribe is building a next-generation group chat platform and is seeking a Social Media and Community Manager to enhance community engagement in the Bay Area. The role involves recruiting members, managing community activities, and providing feedback to the product team to ensure a vibrant and self-sustaining community.
Responsibilities
- Launch and grow Bay Area Tribes
- Recruit and onboard tribe members and hosts
- Help power tribe programming: prompts, daily rituals, polls, intros, and lightweight moderation
- Keep quality high: reduce spam, prevent 'dead chats,' and build culture + norms
- Run a consistent community activation engine
- Create a repeatable cadence of engagement: regular posts, member spotlights, simple challenges / questions, polls and lightweight games
- Plan and execute small, high-signal IRL meetups: coffees, happy hours, coworking sessions, tennis meetups, parent park hangs, etc
- Build playbooks that make communities self-sustaining, not dependent on you
- Recruit and manage ambassadors + partnerships
- Build a local ambassador pipeline: students, creators, community builders, organizers
- Partner with existing community nodes: coworking spaces, gyms, tennis clubs, founder hubs, universities, neighborhood groups
- Coordinate cross-promo and 'bring your community to Tribe' collaborations
- Be the voice of the Bay Area user to product
- Collect structured feedback: what's confusing, what's missing, what causes drop-off
- Share weekly insights with the product team (themes + examples + proposed fixes)
- Help test new onboarding flows, features, and community tools with live groups
- Own metrics and accountability
- Track performance by Tribe and by host: activation rate, WAU/MAU, retention, posts/member, invite rate
- Run experiments (and write down results): 'what moved engagement' and 'what didn't'
Skills
- 1+ year in community, partnerships, events, growth, or similar “people + ops + storytelling” roles
- Comfortable being out in the world: meeting hosts, visiting partner locations, running small events
- Strong operational discipline: tracking, follow-ups, playbooks, weekly reporting
- Familiarity with modern community platforms (WhatsApp/Telegram/Discord/Slack/Reddit/etc.) and what makes them work
- Must be based in the Bay Area or within driving distance
- Experience working at an early-stage startup
- Experience running ambassador programs or creator partnerships
- Basic comfort with analytics tools (Mixpanel/GA/Sheets) and experimentation
- A strong Bay Area network in any “scene” (founders, parents, sports, students, creators)
