Staff Accountant
Richards, Layton & Finger, Delaware’s largest law firm, seeks a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join its team in Wilmington, DE. The Staff Accountant will provide support to the Finance leadership, managing general ledger and fixed asset accounting, and executing the month-end close process while generating financial statements and performing financial analysis.
Responsibilities
- Execute firmwide accounting and financial reporting functions
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and perform financial analysis, as needed, including actual to budget variance analysis
- Create and post accurate journal entries for firmwide financial transactions and execute the month-end close process for the firm’s two entities
- Create and maintain account and bank reconciliations monthly and resolve any accounting discrepancies timely. This includes maintaining a current fixed assets schedule and ensuring that the fixed assets subledger reconciles to the general ledger
- Support the firm’s annual audit process, including the 401K audit. This includes being the primary point of contact for the external auditors and investigating/resolving any audit findings
- Maintain a system of internal controls over key processes, such as period-end close, and financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with Rule 1.15A and maintain account reconciliations for all client trust accounts
- Assist in preparing documents, interpreting complex financial information, and implementing change that will enhance the department, such as utilizing new accounting software features
- Support the year-end close
- Support the annual budget process
- Support payroll reconciliation
- Perform technical accounting research, as required, and stay abreast of new accounting standards issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)
- Assist with the firm’s various monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings
- Demonstrate exemplary customer service in responding timely and accurately to requests from attorneys, other firm personnel, clients, and other third parties
- Perform other duties as required
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with 1+ years of related experience is required
- Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, tax, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles is required
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required
- Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with an aptitude for working with numbers and being a team player
- Detail-oriented with a customer service focus. Follow through on requests independently and on own initiative
- Ability to adapt to changing demands, including new systems/upgrades, and to successfully prioritize the workload
- Effectively and credibly interact and communicate with the Finance Team, attorneys, administrative assistants, and clients, as this position requires research and timely responses to questions and requests
- Flexibility to adjust to varied situations and possibly work weekends or evenings as needed
- Must have strong technology skills and the ability to navigate a fast-paced, service‐oriented environment
- GAAP: 1 year (Required)
- Budgeting: 1 year (Required)
- CPA certification is strongly preferred
- Prior accounting or financial experience in the legal or other professional services industry is a plus
- Experience with cloud-based accounting and financial reporting software and Microsoft Power BI is a plus
