The NYS Office of General Services is seeking a Professional Engineer 1 (Environmental) to perform environmental engineering duties. The role involves designing water and wastewater treatment systems, preparing reports, and managing project schedules under the direction of licensed staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform environmental engineering duties including designing water/wastewater treatment systems, distribution systems, onsite disposal systems, etc
  • Prepare reports relating to water/wastewater and other environmental engineering systems, including recommendations for changes in design, construction or operational procedures and practices
  • Prepare environmental drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff
  • Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other technical disciplines
  • Actively manage the schedule of assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules
  • Review reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants
  • Actively oversee consultant design work for assigned projects
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress
  • Review shop drawings, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project’s construction
  • Perform a full range of supervisory duties, including reviewing the work of subordinate staff

Skills

  • A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration
  • A qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed in the job description OR one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience
  • One year of full-time experience in sanitary, public health or environmental engineering
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle
