Y-Risk Actuarial Consultant
The Hartford is an insurance company committed to making a difference and providing robust insurance solutions. They are seeking a detail-oriented and analytically driven Actuarial Consultant to work closely with underwriters in developing pricing models and analyzing risk trends while supporting data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Partner with underwriters to develop and refine pricing models for specialty insurance products
- Pricing support, along with other actuaries, including updating and maintaining pricing models/tools
- Work with the data engineer on monthly reporting of audit data and account managers in establishing audit worksheets for smooth processing of monthly audit premiums
- Active participant in the daily Diamond Table underwriting meetings
- Develop innovative and novel solutions to new account opportunities, look for opportunities to further automate and revamp pricing process, and explore other data sources to supplement pricing analysis
- Assist with larger accounts that will rely more on The Hartford’s large account pricing tools and work with data science team to explore additional pricing insights
- Work with underwriting on developing pricing for product expansion
- Support annual reinsurance renewal submission
- Participate in quarterly results analysis
- Potential to work with underwriting and pricing of new emerging risks and technologies creating innovative approaches to evaluating and pricing opportunities
Skills
- Bachelor's degree required
- Sound decision-making and analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in conveying technical results and influence decisions
- Attention to detail and manages priorities well (often rapidly changing priorities)
- Demonstrates leadership qualities, entrepreneurial spirit, and is achievement oriented
- Intellectual curiosity with ability to develop creative problem-solving acumen and potential to build an innovative mindset
- Sound time management skills with the ability to be adaptable to manage and prioritize dynamic workflow
- Computer savvy- experience with MS office suite
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship
- 1-3 years of prior P&C actuarial analyst experience preferred
- Programming experience in R and/or Python a plus, but not a requirement
- Predictive modeling/data science experience a plus but not a requirement
- Candidates with hybrid reporting to the Unionville, CT office are highly preferred
